5th Grade Band Delights Audience La Banda de 5to Grado Deleita al Público

5th grade Band students performed for 4th and 5th grade students on December 15 and wowed the audience!  Mr. Gasso, the music teacher and band director at Hermes, helped band members showcase the different instruments and the various sounds they can make.  This year, the Hermes 5th grade band has 31 students, including 11 trumpet players (our largest group of one instrument in recent memory). They have all learned to play 5 notes on their instruments. With those 5 notes, they have learned to play a variety of songs including “Rain, Rain Go Away” and “Jingle Bells.”  The audience even got to hear a special solo from clarinetist, Nailah Dawkins Walls!  

After winter break, they will begin working on songs for their end-of-the-year concert in May. For their next concert, all band students will learn new notes on their instruments and continue learning how to read music. Overall, this is a very motivated group of band students who have improved a lot since the beginning of the year.  Many of them have chosen to spend their recess time in the music room to practice. 

Students and staff were incredibly impressed and proud of our 5th grade band, and are looking forward to watching them continue to make music this school year!

¡La banda de 5to grado hizo una presentación para los estudiantes de 4to y 5to grado el 15 de diciembre y sorprendió al público! El Sr. Gasso, maestro de música y director de la banda en Hermes, ayudó a los miembros de la banda a mostrar los diferentes instrumentos y variados sonidos que pueden hacer. Este año, la banda de 5to grado de Hermes tiene 31 estudiantes, incluyendo 11 intérpretes de trompeta (nuestro grupo más grande de un instrumento en la historia reciente). Todos han aprendido a tocar 5 notas en sus instrumentos. Con esas 5 notas han aprendido a tocar una variedad de canciones incluyendo “Lluvia Vete Ya” y “Cascabel.” ¡La audiencia incluso tuvo la oportunidad de escuchar un solo especial del clarinetista, Nailah Dawkins Walls!

Después de las vacaciones de invierno, comenzarán a trabajar en canciones para su concierto de fin de año en mayo. Para su próximo concierto, todos los estudiantes de la banda aprenderán nuevas notas en sus instrumentos y continuarán aprendiendo a leer música. En general, son un grupo muy motivado de estudiantes de banda que han mejorado bastante desde el comienzo del año. Muchos de ellos han elegido pasar su tiempo de recreo en el salón de música para practicar.

¡Los estudiantes y personal estuvieron increíblemente impresionados y orgullosos de nuestra banda de 5to grado, estamos deseando continuar viéndolos hacer música este año escolar!
