East High Grad Visits from the U.S NavyGraduada de East High nos visita desde la Marina de los EE. UU.

Hermes 5th grade students were treated to a special guest speaker on Wednesday, September 4th.  Former Hermes Panther, Simmons Panther, and East Aurora High School graduate Yasmine Guerrero visited with and spoke to students about her experience in the United States Navy.  Yasmine is a ABH, “Aviation Boatswain Handling”, and has served on two aircraft carriers, the CVN 77 USS George H.W. Bush and the CVN 73 USS George Washington.  

Yasmine spoke to students about the hard work that goes into being a member of the U.S. Navy, and how her education in East Aurora prepared her for this job.  She encouraged students to work hard in school, and to also take risks and go for their dreams.  She talked about her experiences in boot camp, the deployments she’s been on, and her aspiration to potentially become a bilingual teacher herself!

Students were thrilled to ask her questions and to see they had so many similarities with her.  Teachers and staff were excited to welcome back a former student and to see her succeed in her adult life!
