Students Compose Their Own MusicStudents Compose Their Own Music

Hermes students can add “music composer” to their list of accomplishments for this school year!  Second, third, and fifth grade classes have been using their knowledge of form, rhythm, and melodic shape/direction to strategically compose their own melodies.  After they finish, they learn to play their melody on a xylophone.  Students then recorded them performing their melody.

Mr. Todd, one of the music teachers at Hermes, took the project one step further by creating QR codes to go with each student’s recording.  A simple scan of the QR code attached to their composition will take someone directly to the recording of students performing.  Visitors to Hermes can use a free QR Reader app or just point an iPhone camera at the code.
